Worship / Music Music at IHC Judaism has a rich heritage of sacred and secular music. The traditional chants of Sephardic and Ashkenazic Jews; sacred compositions by Bloch, Weiner, and Richards; contemporary music by Debbie Friedman, Craig Taubman, and Noam Katz are all part of our musical culture. The sounds of Eastern Europe – the klezmer tradition – add spice to our musical tzimmes or potpourri. Anyone with musical gifts is invited to share them in one of our vocal or instrumental ensembles.Chai Notes is a choir for kids in the First through Fourth Grades. This group leads music at our monthly Shabbat Family Service. Rehearsals take place during the First Session of religious school. Noraim is the group for kids in grades Five through Seven and their parents. This special group participates in early morning services for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Rehearsals take place on Wednesdays beginning in mid to late August. Congregational Choir is open to any singer from the Eighth Grade on up. The choir sings for Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur and at Shabbat worship throughout the year. It also participates in special programs in the community. Rehearsals are on Mondays and Thursdays prior to Rosh Hashanah and on Wednesdays after Yom Kippur. 65th Street Klezmorim is our house band. Simchat Torah, Purim, and Shabbat are made livelier by this talented group of instrumentalists playing in the traditional Klezmer style. Rehearsals take place on Sunday afternoon following Religious School. In addition, members who play instruments are invited to share their talents at Shabbat worship. To discuss this opportunity or for more information about any of our musical ensembles, please contact Cantor Roger at janicer@ihcindy.org. |
