Temple Sisterhood is the organization of the women of Indianapolis Hebrew Congregation. We come together in friendship to plan and implement programs to benefit IHC and the community at large for social activities, for study and, most importantly, for the opportunity to fulfill our individual potential as a person and as a woman of Reform Judaism.

 

 

Within the structure of IHC,Sisterhood is the collective presence, voice and strength of our congregational women. It is a chance to meet other women and work together to initiate and develop projects for the benefit and enhancement of the Jewish life of our congregation. Frequently, we work with other groups within the Temple to achieve this goal.

 

 

Sisterhood carries out its mission through various committees including Membership, Leadership, Religious Living, Programming, Fundraising and Caring Community. Our projects include Bar/Bat Mitzvah gifts, Confirmation gifts, flowers for the Bimah, Second Night Seder, scholarships for the Early Childhood Center and GUCI, toiletry collection for shelters, suitcase collection for foster children, support of the Religious School, blood drives and Hope Lodge. Recently, we've also provided financial assistance to the Temple kitchen remodeling project and playground equipment for ECC. Your dues payment includes membership in Women of Reform Judaism (WRJ) which serves Jewish and humanitarian causes worldwide and also includes a pledge to Youth, Education, and Special Projects (YES Funds).

 

 

Sisterhood provides you with a chance to become part of the collective identity of the women of IHC. Through its affiliation with WRJ, Temple Sisterhood will give you a worldwide identity as well. WRJ is an international federation of more than 600 Sisterhoods with 100,000 members throughout the U.S., Canada and overseas. In addition, Temple Sisterhood can provide you with an outlet for your energy, creativity and leadership potential as a Jewish woman.

 

 

ABSOLUTELY! We want and need the support of all the women of IHC. Whether you're a mother, sister, daughter, aunt, single or married, widowed, with or without children, an empty nester, born Jewish, a Jew by choice, a non-Jew married to someone Jewish, we encourage you to become a member. The only membership criteria needed is to be a member of IHC.

 

You may pick and choose among the activities or projects that interest you. Perhaps you have free time or no time at all. Active and inactive members support Temple Sisterhood with their dues contribution. We would be a better organization to have you counted among our members.
