Our Community / Brotherhood Brotherhood Debunking Common Brotherhood Myths
Myth #1 - "Brotherhood doesn't really do anything except provide ushers for High Holy Days."
Fact - We are involved in a wide variety of activities that support Jewish education, IHC and the Jewish community. For example, each year we provide scholarships that allow many people to attend GUCI or have other Jewish experiences that would not otherwise be possible; we donated and maintain IHC's computer lab; we publish the annual Memory Book distributed at Yitzkor services; we organize periodic brunches so our members can enjoy fellowship and stimulating conversation; and we participate in and/or help fund many other projects too numerous to name.
Myth #2 - "I know the Brotherhood holds monthly Board meetings but those are just for Board Members."
Fact - The so-called Board meetings (generally held the first Monday of every month beginning at 8 pm) are open to all Brotherhood members. Any member present has voting rights on any issue brought before the Board that night. If you've never attended a Board meeting, we encourage you to try it out. It's a great way to meet people and have a direct impact on the projects your Brotherhood supports. Plus it only lasts an hour - guaranteed - or your wasted time will be cheerfully refunded.
Myth #3 - "Since I don't really have the time to commit to Brotherhood, I don't think I'll join this year."
Fact - Of course we would love to see all our members at every event and meeting, but we're in touch with reality enough to know that's not possible. The truth is, just by joining and paying your dues, you are helping to support Brotherhood's activities. Please attend as many events as you can, but if you don't do anything else, at least join! We need your help to reach our goal of signing up 100% of the male membership as Brotherhood members.
